The Narrator is soooo important!

Haha yeah, this is a little chuckle from me.

I know I am ruffling some feathers by saying things like this.

Don’t get me wrong; I am all about the story and what it can do.

BUT!!!!

Sometimes a story is only as good as the narrator.

I mean, I can never do a Morgan Freeman on my stories.

BUT, we can try… right?!

After looking at some great speakers of the day, TED talks will do that to you.

I wanted to narrow down what separated the good talks from the greats.

I quickly picked up on that all the great storytellers have this one thing in common.

It was the fact that they really KNOW what they are talking about.

They KNOW their story inside out, and they LOVE to tell it.

They create a scenario where we can instantly identify with the character they build.

We know what the character looks like, what they feel.

It is easy to then add our inflexions to the way they speak.

Have you ever heard of the term “Getting lost in the story”?

Well, the great speakers know how to pull you in.

When the narrator of a story can help you get lost in the tale, they are doing an exceptional job.

They teleport you away, take you on an epic journey, and put you on a rollercoaster of thought and emotion.

Their enthusiasm is a massive part of what brings the story to life.

Now… to drive this home.

Imagine David Attenborough slowly and in a perfect British accent signing us off with a short and sweet message…

“I’ve been bitten by a python. It wasn’t a very big one. And with that, I leave you till next time. Good day.”

When Covid started, we were separated by an ocean.
We were forced to use technology to 'be' together.

New norms got forced on us, and we had to adapt, adjust and overcome.

A board game became a LAN party.
Valentine's day was' n rose in binary.

So, with the new year comes new goals.. protein intake being one of them.
Me and the wifey @ux.by.ana was shaking our lil tail feathers trying to get the protein shakes all mixed up.
So I took it upon myself to be the shake master.
Not very comfortable with the standard shaking method I broke out in a bit of hip hop.
It got us thinking.. isn’t it the same for telling stories?
It is not what you say, but sometimes how you present your story.

Like the great Sherlock Holmes said “It’s all elementary my dear (insert your name).” This year threw some serious curveballs and we had to Improvise, Adapt and Overcome!

Around this time last year we made plans and mother nature laughed. She really has a cruel and crazy sense of humour. We had to make a lot of changes but if we stick to the gameplan and approach it differently we can totally achieve them all.

We can use Anthropomorphism, a strategy for storytelling whereby human characteristics are applied to non-human characters. Evidence suggests that anthropomorphism makes the audience more sympathetic and better able to connect with an animal or robot character since they can metaphorically see themselves reflected in the character.
